In January 2022, Passenger car sales totaled 2.26 million units, down by 4% year-on-year whereas EV sales recorded more than 315,000 units, up by 111.9% year-on-year, taking up 13.9% of total sales in the same period.
During this period, the top 10 manufacturers took up 71.7% of total EV sales with BYD and SGMW as the top 2 with more than 30,000 units in sales.

As for Hybrids, BYD remains as the winner in this category taking up more than half of the sales.

And on 21st January, the Chinese government issued a statement on “Further Improving the Service Guarantee Capability of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure”. The details are as follows,
(1) About the construction and installation of charging facilities in residential communities. Existing residential communities should actively carry out the transformation of charging piles, and new residential communities should strictly implement the requirements for supporting construction
(2) About the construction and installation of public charging facilities. It is proposed to scientifically formulate the “14th Five-Year Plan” for charging infrastructure to promote the standardized and orderly development of charging facilities.
(3) About the R&D and application of new technologies. It is necessary to give full play to the energy storage characteristics of power batteries, explore and popularize forms such as orderly charging and V2G, and realize the coordinated interaction between electric vehicles and the power grid.
(4) About the operation and maintenance of charging facilities and network services. Optimization measures are put forward in terms of operation and maintenance management of charging equipment and improvement of service experience.
(5) About the construction of supporting power grid. It is required to strengthen the construction of supporting power grids and the supervision of power supply.
(6) Regarding quality and safety supervision. Strengthen supervision through national, provincial, and municipal three-level charging facilities service platforms.
(7) On the strength of fiscal and financial support. It is proposed to provide financial support for the construction of public charging piles
In line with the proposed statement, on January 18, Contemporary Amperex Energy Service Technology Ltd. (CAES), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL), rolled out its battery swap solution EVOGO featuring modular battery swapping at its first online launch event. Comprised of battery blocks, fast battery swap stations, and an app, EVOGO will be first launched in ten cities, said Chen Weifeng, general manager of CAES.
