As electric vehicles and autonomous technology progress faster each day, we can’t help thinking of the endless possibilities of the future automotive glass.
Currently, it can heat up and remove mist; protect passengers from heat, noise, and UV; enable head-up display; become bulletproof, etc. When our cars become fully automated, it is up to our imagination to what our future car interiors would become. Our windshields and side glasses could become touch screens. Like some Tesla and Range Rover models, we could have even bigger sunroofs and fully immerse ourselves in a digital world.
Change is inevitable given our incessant need to be connected. So what would happen to the value of automotive glass? I think it will definitely rise exponentially. The current HUD only provides limited road information and it is already quite expensive, not to mention a large touchscreen display. And, there are possibilities of breakage. Unless we decide one day to give up on the idea of see-through in the passenger’s seat. We can definitely expect some hefty price tags on automotive glass in the future.
